The ability to pay per comic page/per piece of content got removed, it’s only monthly payments from here on out. With this they also removed the bundled payments, which reduced the impact of flat transaction fees that paypal and credit card companies charge, so more money landed in creators hands rather than monopolistic payment processors.
The bundled payment were better for monthly payments too. You could donate 1$ each, to three creators, and the bundled 3$ payment would incur the flat fee only once.
This is bad for patrons and bad for creators, plus people who have disabilites, have other health problems, or simply take a long time to finish a piece of content and don’t want to charge patrons for months where nothing was produced.
This also renders my other Patreon a bit moot for now: Patreon.com/cw/pa
So you might want to sub to just one, if you are subbed to both currently. If I ever realize my pie in the sky dreams I will use one of the Patreons for the comic and the other one for a videogame.
We still get the ability to pause our campaigns, but I’m a bit wary of it because pausing too long may mean Patreon might at some point un-publish the page because of inactivity, which can lead creators to losing their founder’s benefits. (5% fee instead of 10%) I’m a bit paranoid about that so I will likely not do it.
But that means getting paid for nothing.
My wrist is recovering after I broke it, but still painful when doing too much. Got a host of other health issues as well, but maybe this will push me to release at least something every month.
I think I pretty much settled on using AI in some capacity, but I do want to use it more collaboratively, rather than just prooompting. To that end I want to create a small drawing app that will enable this collaborative approach.
Now that clankers are getting so good I might make Claude do it, and getting some Patreon income again would help me pay for that sub, so I could start and see if it’s feasible.
I’d also have to turn to AI to fix my website which is in a state of disrepair right now. The webcomic plugin and theme for WordPress I’m using is no longer being maintained.
I can’t even upload a comic right now without errors and I can’t fix the website on my own. There’s no way in hell I will ever write PHP code, it disagrees with my brain like nothing else, so AI would be kind of a savior here. Once the plugin is fixed I could upload it for others to use as well, or I could completely redesign the website, without having to use WordPress at all.
So yeah, fair warning: Will be using AI in the future, and if I continue on AHS, or another comic it will probably be the horniest most degenerate thing possible. (Will talk on that later)
If you don’t want to support that, there’s still some time to unsubscribe from my Patreon before the changes go into effect.
